Lockups refer to when you’re using the computer normally but then all of a sudden the system completely stops running. You can see information on the screen but it’s frozen. The computer does not respond to the keyboard or mouse.
Check the event log, but usually there won’t be much in there when a computer experiences a lockup.
While the lockup is occurring, check for any activity. See if any status lights are flickering, such as the hard drive lights or the activity lights on your network interface card.
On Windows perform a Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the task manager.
Update drivers and software patches. But if any changes recently occurred see if reversing a change fixes the behavior.
Sometimes lockups occur because the system is low on resources like RAM and storage.
Run hardware diagnostics.
