CompTIA lists the replacement of laptop memory as one of the objectives on the 220-1001 exam.
In laptops or other mobile devices it is common to find either a SO-DIMM or Micro-DIMM memory modules.
SO-DIMM stands for Small Outline Dual In-line Memory Module.
Micro-DIMM stands for Micro Dual In-line Memory Module. Micro-DIMMs are smaller than SO-DIMMs.
Replacing Laptop Memory Modules
Generally, SO-DIMMs are held in place with spring loaded clips on the sides of the modules. Push the right clip to the right and the left clip to the left to release the memory chip. The memory chip should then release at an angle to the laptop and you can gently pull it up and out. An example of actually replacing a RAM module in a laptop can be seen in the video below.
