Backed-up print queue
If you look at the print queue and see there are many jobs lined up with no progression, you may have an issue with the printer or the print queue. Check to see if the printer server is working and can send information to the printer. Check the print spooler service which is in charge of sending print jobs to the printer. Make sure that the printer spooler service has not crashed. Restarting the print spooler can get things running again. Windows provides you with recovery options so that you to manage the process when a service fails. For example, you can configure it so that if the service fails the first time, Windows will automatically restart it.
Low memory errors
A laser printer has to built the entire page in memory before it is able to print. Complex documents with lots of graphics consume more of its memory. Sometimes the printer may not have enough memory to build out the entire page. When this occurs the printer may display a memory error or only a portion of the page prints out.
Access denied
If someone tries to print to a printer but get an “access denied” error, check the Security configurations. Inside of the printer properties is a Security tab that allows you to assign rights and permissions to the printer for different users and groups. You can set who is able to manage the printer, manage the documents, and who can print to the printer.
Printer will not print
If the printer will not print, first check the obvious and see if the printer is powered on. Next, check the printer display to see if there are any error messages. If the printer has a test print function on the printer itself, utilize this feature to see if you’re able to print as a standalone device.
If the printer’s test print comes out correctly, check the printer’s connectivity. Print a test page from a computer. If that doesn’t work, try connecting the computer directly to the printer via USB to see if the problem is related to network connectivity.
Use the Windows test print (from the printer properties) to test the operating system, network, drivers, and spooler for any issues.
If the Windows test print works, try printing from a different application to see if the issue is application specific.
Color prints in wrong print color
If you find that printouts are coming out incorrectly colored, you may have low ink in a particular color. You may need to replace this cartridge or clean this cartridge if it is clogged.
