Battery not charging
It’s natural that batteries lose capacity over time. If you find that the battery isn’t holding a charge at all, it could be a bad battery or the laptop charging hardware may be malfunctioning. Try charging the battery in an identical laptop to determine if it is the battery or laptop that is the issue.
Ghost cursor/pointer drift
Ghost cursor is when the mouse moves/drifts on screen even when you’re not touching the laptop. This can be caused when there are issues with the mousepad. To fix this issue, update your drivers. The updated drivers may be able to constantly check for any type of drifting and can then recalibrate the mousepad to prevent drifting from occurring.
Another issue is if you’re typing and your palm accidentally presses the touchpad, which makes the cursor move undesirably around on screen. This too may be fixed by updating your drivers. Updated drivers may allow the mousepad to better differentiate between your fingers actually moving the mouse versus accidental palm presses.
No power
If you’re connected to an external power source, but you’re not getting power to the laptop, check the power adapter brick with a mulitmeter to see if you’re getting DC power out. You can also use the multimeter to check if you’re getting power out of the AC wall outlet.
The laptop may have also gotten hung up and may need to be reset. If there’s no way to remove the battery from the laptop, do a hard reset by holding down the power button for 10 seconds, or there may be a set of keystrokes that initiate a hardware reset. Check your laptop documentation to determine the proper process for performing a reset.
Num lock indicator lights
Since mobile device keyboards are limited in space, some keys may double as both numbers and letters. Generally you’ll hold down the function key in addition to the letter key in order to type out a number. But if you turn on the num lock, everytime you type, you don’t need to hold down the function key, and now anytime you press a letter key, it’ll actually type out the numbers. Rember to press the num lock key again to disable num lock and go back to typing letters as normal.
No wireless connectivity
There are multiple antennas in mobile devices such as WiFi main, WiFi aux, Bluetooth, and others. The antenna wires wrap around the laptop screen so that they are located at the highest point for better connectivity. However, this also means that antennas are easy to accidentally disconnect during mobile device maintenance. If there is no 802.11 wireless or Bluetooth make sure the antennas are plugged in. Make sure that you test wireless and Bluetooth before you close up the laptop after performing maintenance.
