Disk Utility in MacOS is used to manage disk, images, and resolve drive issues. Disk Utility has a button called First Aid which can be used to verify and repair file systems like Windows Check Disk. Disk Utility can configure partitions. Disk Utility can also erase disks. Disk utility also allows for the creation, conversion, and restoration of disk images.
Linux
As far as disk maintence goes, there is not much needed. You can clean up log space as it becomes filled with logs. The logs are located in the /var/log directory.
A file system check can also be performed. This file system check is done automatically after a certain number of reboots. However, if you want to manually force it to run on the next reboot then you would use the following command: sudo touch /forcefsck
