MacOS
Time Machine is a backup utility included with MacOS.
Generally, you’ll have a connected drive that Time Machine can save its backups too. However, if the drive is unavailable, macOS will take snapshots. When you connect back to the drive, Time Machine will update it with the snapshot.
Time Machine uses the Finder User Interface. On the right hand side are dates that you can select. Once you select a date, the Finder window will update to rewind back to that date and provide you with restoration options.
Linux
Linux may have a built in backup GUI utility depending on which Linux distribution you have. You’ll have to check the distribution documention to see what may be available. Otherwise the command line rysnc
is also available to synchronize files between devices.
