- Workgroups are the most basic and are the default. Workgroup name found by opening Control Panel System applet. Workgroups lack centralized control over the network; all systems connected to the network are equals.
- Workgroups provide almost no security and require lots of signing on to access resources.
- By default, Homegroups share Windows libraries instead of folders. IT connects a group of computers using a comon password, no special user names required. Can be a member of only one homegroup at a time. Homegroups require IPv6 protocol.
- Create Homegroup through HomeGroup Control Panel applet (Homegroup not in Windows 10)
- All homegroup data is encrypted between systems.
- Homegroups are good for smaller, non domain home neworks
With workgroups you can create logical groups of network devices. Each device in a workgroup is a standalone system in which everyone is a peer. Each computer manages its own user authorization, and therefore Workgroups do not provide for centralized management. In a workgroup, if a user wants to change their password, he or she would have to change it on every device in the workgroup.
Workgroups can be managed in the System applet of the Control Panel.
