In Windows 7/8/8.1, the Windows Firewall is available. In Windows 10, this feature was renamed Windows Defender Firewall. The Window firewall is a built into the operating system to prevent anyone from the outside gaining access to your computer. The Firewall can help to prevent attacks and malicious software.
The Window Firewall information is found in the Control Panel under Windows Firewall.
The firewall can operate differently depending on where you are. For example, if you’re on your own private network, you can allow other people on your network to access shares on your local computer. But if you take your laptop outside of your local network, Windows will then use a guest or public profile which would prevent external access to your laptop.
