With System Restore, you can roll back your system configuration to an earlier point in time (a restore point).
Windows automatically creates restore points whenever something happens with the operating system, such as right before you perform an update or install a new application.
System Restore can be accessed by pressing F8 during startup. Then select Advanced Boot Options and then select Repair.
In Windows 7/8/8.1/10, you can also go to the Control Panel and select Recovery.
Doing a System Restore may not necessarily allow you to recover from viruses and spyware. Malware is able to infect restore points.
