Wearable technology devices are often small and specialized (for example, geared towards fitness). Most wearable technology devices connect to a phone, cloud internet, or both.
Smart watches
A smart watch is an extension of your phone that you can wear on your wrist. It can tell time, like a traditional watch, but adds functionality such as making and receiving calls.
Fitness monitors
Fitness monitors are another type of wearable technology. Fitness monitors can measure things like your heart rate, number of steps you take, track your sleep patterns, and more.
VR/AR headsets
Virtual Reality (VR) headsets replace reality with a computer generated reality. You put on a VR headset and you are shown a virtual reality. This virtual reality can receive input from the real world, such as respond to your real life movements.
Applications for VR include gaming, industrial design, and enhanced video and image experiences.
Augmented Reality (AR) overlays a virtual environment on top of the real physical world. An AR headset provides additional information to what is occurring in the real world. An example is Google glass, which were glasses that allow you to see the physical world but also added a virtual information.
Applications for AR include use in the medical field, gaming, industrial applications to quickly pull up training materials while viewing the problem at hand, and so on.
