4.1 Virtual Application Streaming / Cloud-Based Applications

4. Virtualization and Cloud Computing (220-1001), Comptia A+ (Plus), Comptia A+ (Plus) 220-1001

This entry is part 196 of 230 in the series Comptia A+ (Plus) 220-1001 Series

Virtual application streaming is like on demand application. You don’t need to do a local installation of the application. Instead you start the application and the application is streamed down to you as you use it. The components are downloaded as needed. For example, you may have an icon on your desktop. When you click on the icon, only the components you’re using inside of that app will be downloaded and run on your local machine. Once you’re done with the application, all of your data is stored in the cloud so that the next time you start the application, all of your data will be available regardless of where you’re using the application from.

Virtual application streaming is easy to update since the application is in one place. Some data may be cached and only the components that needs updates will be changed.

Applications for cell phones/tablets

Application streaming on cell phones and tablets allow you to run an app, or portion of an app, in real-time. You can use an app as if it were installed on your system.

Applications for laptops/desktops

Application streaming for laptops/desktops means that there is no complex deployment process. Apps are only streamed if they are used. New applications are simply added to the cloud offering. Administrators can quickly manage and make changes to the applications.
